<image:title>Instructors - Katya Browne, RYT 200</image:title>
<image:caption>Favorite Yoga Posture: Chakrasana (Wheel Pose) Off the Mat: Katya enjoys reading, dancing, listening to and playing music, eating delicious food, and hanging with her husband and dog Joni. What's Up: She is inspired by art, music, literature, film, and her surroundings, and uses her environment to gain creative inspiration. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Studies and her passion for music is evident in her classes. Trip to Yoga: To Katya, yoga is joyful movement where one can express, learn from, and connect with the self. She grew up a non-athletic child & young adult who felt complete disconnect from her physical body, and yoga was the tool that changed this. After dabbling in yoga on and off for years, she completed her 200-hour training and dove headfirst into teaching yoga full-time. In Katya's class you are welcome to move with safety, mindfulness, happiness and individuality. She aims to empower students with the tools to learn how they can make yoga their own and find creative physical expression. A dynamic movement experience paired with magnetic playlists, her classes aim to hold space where one can explore, play, get curious, and show up exactly as you are. See you on the mat, space cowboys...</image:caption>

      <image:title>Instructors - Jamie Lipsey, RYT 200</image:title>
<image:caption>Favorite Yoga Posture: Ardha Chandrasana (Half Moon) Off the Mat: You can find Jamie running, honing her roller skating skills, eyeing her next (sprint) triathlon, and planning her next trip. What’s Up: Jamie's classes are fun, flowy, and sneaky hard. Expect to find shapes that challenge your balance and new ways to move your body around the mat. Trip to Yoga: Jamie stumbled into a vinyasa class in college - she emerged an hour and a half later completely hooked (and more than a little sweaty). Through all the changes that life in DC can throw at you, she has found yoga to be an anchor in all the ups and downs. After practicing for years, she finally took her first yoga teacher training in DC - and immediately became a bit of a training pack rat - from mobility work to somatic movement. She strives to find the balance between effort and stillness - you'll move, sweat, and maybe find some new perspective as you step off your mat.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Favorite Yoga Posture: Savasana with a Smile Off the Mat: Jaunts around DC with his fur-friend, Tucker! What’s Up: Yoga is for everyone! You already have the ability, the right body, and the mental motivation to achieve what you want through yoga. Jonathan views his job is to help pull all those things together for students, on and off the mat. Trip to Yoga: Jonathan is a certified yoga teacher and has been practicing for 20+ years. His teaching style places an emphasis on breaking down poses to educate those who are new(er) to yoga, inviting people to opt in for hands-on assists, and keeping movement and alignment accessible through language and demonstrations. Jonathan uses breath work, mindfulness, and humor to support people as they cultivate a yoga practice that feels right in their bodies—and to dispel the myth that we need to look like the photos we see online. This is a commitment Jonathan makes to ensure all bodies and all levels feel comfortable and safe in classes, especially for men and BIPOC people who are often underrepresented in the yoga spaces.</image:caption>

What’s Up: She is moved by people around her and wants to understand what moves them. She does UX research by day. Trip to Yoga: Carol has found that freedom emerges when our inner and outer worlds are connected. <image:caption>Favorite Yoga Posture: Trikonasana (Triangle) Off the Mat: She enjoys hiking, traveling, cooking, and reading. What’s Up: Malihe fosters a baby gorilla named Imbaduko through the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. Want to see Imbaduko? Just ask for a photo! There are only a few hundred of these incredible mountain gorillas left in the wild, so supporting their care and protection feels like a small but meaningful way to give back. Trip to Yoga: She began practicing yoga a few years ago as part of her healing journey from chronic pain. Yoga quickly evolved into a deep, ongoing commitment to mindful movement, breathwork, and community care. She has deepened her practice through studies in somatics, anatomy, myofascial lines, meditation, Buddhism, and nervous system-informed practices. What’s Up: She adores her 2 sweet pups, Tank and Archer, who love to practice with her (no judgment if there's dog hair on her leggings) Trip to Yoga: A ballet injury bought Ana to yoga as a kid and the stress of college brought her back as an adult. She started teaching soon after graduating from FSU (Go Noles!) and fell in love with the ~yoga high~ that follows a challenging class in addition to the sincere friendships she found off the mat. She loves uniting movement and mindfulness, and she strives to cultivate an environment where everyone feels safe, accepted, and empowered. Ana has a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology and works to support the Army's suicide prevention program. Outside of work and yoga, she loves going to concerts, drinking espresso martinis with friends, and exploring DC's food scene. Come smile, laugh, and flow with her - all are welcome!</image:caption>

A year later, she received her teaching certification at UDYC as part of the studio's first YTT cohort. Trip to Yoga: Avery’s journey to yoga began in middle school, and she fell in love with the practice in those early years. She reconnected with yoga while in college and joined the Up Dog Yoga Community after moving to DC. It was here where she really began to dive into all aspects of her practice, both on and off the mat. In June of 2024, Avery completed her 200 RYT at Up Dog.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Instructors - Substitute - Alessandra Senger-Clará, RYT 200</image:title>
<image:caption>Favorite Yoga Posture: Svarga Dvijasana (Bird of Paradise) Off the Mat: Traveling feeds her soul, and community keeps her grounded. You’ll find Alessandra chasing sunsets and beaches in different countries, buried in a good book, running through the city, trying a new restaurant, doing all the cultural events (museums, art galleries, etc.) or toasting to life over a glass of red wine and black coffee. She is originally from El Salvador, attended Johns Hopkins and American universities and works in the world of social impact and sustainability: supporting purpose-driven business practices and helping communities and organizations thrive with integrity. What’s Up: Her word for the year is “Energy.” Tuning in, deeply, to what fuels her and letting go of what drains her. She learning to honor her body, mind and soul’s wisdom, protect my joy like it’s sacred, and say yes only to what truly adds to life. It’s less about doing more and more about being well. Trip to Yoga: Alessandra started practicing yoga over a decade ago. What began as a personal practice of curiosity soon became a sanctuary for truth, self-expression, and connection. She discovered that yoga is not about perfect poses, but a powerful connection to self and to one another. Her mantra is:“ Root in Self. Grow in Community.” Alessandra also completed UDYC’s yoga teacher training (YTT) program: “My YTT at Up Dog has deepened my commitment to my practice, exploring the philosophy, embodiment, and spirit of yoga more fully. I decided to do my yoga teacher training (YTT) because I don’t see many instructors or students that look like me, and at times it felt isolating. Because of that, I want to help create spaces where everyone feels seen, celebrated, and safe to move in their own way. I teach classes that are guided by the principles that shaped me: realness, agency, inclusivity, fun, and learning. I offer soulful, intentional and playful flows — where authenticity is honored, community is nurtured, learning is encouraged and students are empowered to explore their own paths while having fun to the tunes of energetic playlists!”</image:caption>
