About Our Program

We are thrilled to launch the inaugural Up Dog Yoga Community 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program!

Consider us eager beavers to contribute to the growth of dedicated and knowledgeable yoga instructors who can inspire and transform the lives of their future students.

We specialize in the Power Flow style of yoga, underpinned by the Vinyasa lineage.

Through our program, we aim to nurture individuals who are not just competent yoga instructors but also compassionate, inclusive, and conscious leaders. We prioritize teaching ethics, the art of mindful sequencing, hands-on adjustments, and modifications to accommodate diverse body types and abilities. Furthermore, we place a strong emphasis on the art of pranayama, meditation, and mindfulness practices as integral components of the curriculum. Students will explore a variety of other yoga lineages, including: Ashtanga Yoga, Rocket Vinyasa Yoga®, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Yin, Restorative, and others.

Expectations for our trainees are high. We anticipate students will not only embrace the physical postures and alignment but also become well-versed in the history and philosophy of yoga. They will be skilled in creating safe, creative sequences, and will have the confidence to guide students through transformative experiences.

Upon completion of the program, students will be fully certified Power Flow yoga teachers, with the skillsets and support to share their joy in yoga with others.

Diving into Details

Experience Requirements: No prior experience or prerequisites are required to participate in the UDYC teacher training program. There is no set time that makes a teacher training right for you! The best advice we can give is to give yourself time to be a beginner in the practice and when you feel the call to journey deeper, answer. If you’re still not sure if you’re “ready,” feel free to send us a note and we will help you feel it out.

Program Focus: Our program shines through its emphasis on the fusion of tradition and innovation. Our core teaching methodology is rooted in traditional Vinyasa principles, promoting a disciplined and structured practice. Simultaneously, we integrate elements of modern Vinyasa Power Flow, resulting in a dynamic, invigorating, and empowering practice. This balance allows us to honor yoga's historical roots while making it accessible to diverse practitioners with varying needs. This 200 Hour Program features key instruction in: Anatomy, Asana, Sequencing, History/Philosophy, Sanskrit, Yin, Ayurveda, Pranayama, Meditation, Ethics, Professional Responsibility, and Business of Yoga. Students will explore the Eight Limbs of Yoga, the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, and other foundational texts, enabling them to understand and apply yogic philosophy in their practice and teaching.

Virtual Classwork: Prior to training sessions, students will complete portions of curriculum (e.g., assignments, reflections) in our online classroom. The information shared prior to training will allow the cohort to actively dive into the study of yoga asana, philosophy, and practice teaching. The classroom will be available two weeks prior to class start.

Practice: Yoga is an experiential practice. Students are expected to practice three times per week, on average, in UDYC scheduled classes outside of training hours.

Completion Requirements:

- Attend all scheduled training sessions, miss no more than 8 hours of in-person yoga teacher training [planned absences must be confirmed with UDYC prior to program start]

- Complete an average of 3 weekly classes outside of scheduled training sessions (minimum 42)

- Complete all issued reading and assignments

- Complete midterm exams

- Score a 75% or higher on the final exam

- Support 10 UDYC classes in physical assists

- Teach a community class practicum

Intensity: Our trainings include physical practice. We encourage students to listen to their body and do only what feels right. If you have concerns about the physical element, please email whats@updogyogacommunity.com and we can discuss.

Scholarships: To ensure yoga education is available to all, we offer scholarships, discounts and payment plans on an as needed basis. Email whats@updogyogacommunity.com for more information.

To Teach or Not to Teach: Whether you walk in to the program wanting to teach in studio classes or deepen your knowledge, everyone walks away from teacher training a teacher in some capacity! The beauty of yoga is that it is a way we walk through the world - a spiritual discipline - far beyond what we learn to teach. There will be ample opportunity to practice finding your voice, sharing your unique message, and finding how you want to show up in the world as a teacher, both on and off the mat. No matter your intention entering the program, by graduation you will be fully capable and ready to teach a full yoga class rooted in knowledge and practice.

Accreditation: Up Dog Yoga Community is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School (RYS) and a Continuing Education Provider (YACEP) ; the program is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) 200 Hour Training course. See Yoga Alliance for more details!
